Heinz Brothers brings family gardening classes to St. Charles Park District

ST. CHARLES – The St. Charles Park District is teaming up with Heinz Brothers Greenhouse in St. Charles to offer three new planting classes for parents and children.

Fairy Garden 101 will teach children how to design a fairy garden in their own backyard. The class provides materials including a pot, soil moss, stones, plants and a choice of three fairy garden accessories.

The class is offered from noon to 1 p.m. April 13, 10 to 11 a.m. April 19 or 1 to 2 p.m. April 28. The fee is $35 and the class is for ages 5 and older.

Children can create a special memory with their families as they create a planter during the Tea Cup Planter for Mother's Day class, where they will paint a flower pot. Heinz Brothers will provide the plant material, container, soil and fertilizer.

The Tea Cup classes are offered from 1 to 1:30 p.m. May 5 or 9:30 to 10 a.m. May 11. The fee is $10, and the class is for ages 3 and older.

The Summer Container Planting Party will give families an opportunity to create a flowering container to display at home. Potting soil, fertilizer, plant material and container will be provided.

The Planting Party is offered from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. May 18 or May 26. The fee is $40.

“We’re excited to partner with Heinz Brothers to offer these gardening classes that are imaginative, memorable and fun,” said Sabrina Killeen, park district supervisor in a news release. “Best of all, they can bring these garden projects home to enjoy all summer long.”

All classes are located at Heinz Brothers, 2010 E. Main St., St. Charles. Registration is required at www.stcpark.org. For more information, call Sabrina Killeen at 630-513-4329.
