Behrens, Comets hold off BV

Golden Warriors topple future Western Big 6 foe Alleman

Ethan Behrens tossed five scoreless innings to lead the Newman baseball team to a 4-3 home win over Bureau Valley.

Behrens helped his own cause with two hits, one RBI and one run scored. Chase Graham and Brycen Bartel each added two hits for the Comets.

Tyler Gustafson and Matt Philhower each had hits and scored a run for Bureau Valley.

Sterling 7, Alleman 3, 8 inn.: The Golden Warriors picked up a nonconference road win over one of their future Western Big 6 Conference mates.

Camden Bailey had a single, a double and two RBIs for Sterling. Cooper Willman drove in a pair of runs, while Brayden Wolf and Alex Escalante each picked up an RBI.

Jeremy Hall earned the win in relief, striking out one in his only inning of work. Dylan Bryant allowed scattered seven hits and three walks while striking out four over seven innings.

Dixon 12, Stillman Valley 3: The Dukes blasted their way past the Cardinals for a Big Northern road win.

Payton Lawrence struck out nine over six innings, and also had three hits at the plate for Dixon. Brendan Boelter had two hits and three RBIs, while Oscar Van Sickle drove in a pair of runs.

Oregon 24, South Beloit 6: The Hawks blasted their way past the SoBos for a nonconference road win.

Princeton 6, Erie-Prophetstown 3: The Panthers didn’t have a hit but managed to make things interesting in a home loss to the Tigers.

Rockridge 7, Fulton 4: The Steamers fell to the Rockets in a TRAC West home loss.

Pecatonica-Durand 13, AFC 2: Henry Rod and Trey Winkler each had two hits and an RBI as the Raiders fell to 0-5 overall and in NUIC East play.

Jeremy Etes (0-2) took the loss, allowing eight runs (six earned) in five innings. Rod allowed five runs – none earned – in the final two frames.

West Carroll 10, Milledgeville 6: Derek Tracy singled twice, drove in two runs, scored twice and was the winning pitcher for the Thunder in a road win against the Missiles.

Bradley Tuftee had two RBIs and scored twice for West Carroll. Aiden Sullivan also scored two runs.

For Milledgeville, Nate Rahn knocked in three runs, while Connor Woodin collected three hits.

Dakota 16, Eastland 7: The Indians rapped out 15 hits on their way to a road win against the Cougars.

Orion 11, Morrison 1, 5 inn.: Nate Helms was touched up for six runs in the top of the first inning as the Chargers routed the Mustangs.

Tennis

Princeton 4, Newman 1: The No. 3 doubles team of Anton Frank and Griffin Moran won 6-1, 6-4 for the Comets’ lone victory in a road loss. Every match was decided in straight sets.

Track & field

Bureau Valley 95, Fieldcrest 92, Henry-Senachwine 45: Kale Barnett won three events to help the Storm win a triangular in Manlius.

Barnett placed first in the 100 (12.38), 200 (25.04) and pole vault (11-0). The Storm’s 4x400 relay of Davey Dietz, Casey Horner, Mason Lemons and Jeffrey Linley won in 4:16.25. Isaac Whitford joined Dietz, Linley and Lemons to win the 4x800 relay (11:27.54).

Layton Britt won the 110 hurdles (20.45) for BV, and Joe Green won the shot put (42-2).
