DeKalb man released on signature after police say he beat, robbed teen

SYCAMORE – A DeKalb man accused of robbing and beating up a child has been released from DeKalb County jail on his signature.

Larry S. Dunn, 18, of the 800 block of Ridge Drive, has been charged with aggravated robbery and mob action. If convicted of the most serious offense, aggravated robbery, he could face four to 15 years in prison.

Police say in court records that about 1:15 a.m. Thursday, Dunn and a 17-year-old beat up the minor in the parkway of the 1000 block of West Hillcrest Drive. Video shows the two punching the victim repeatedly as he tried to get away, according to the records, which add that the victim said the two implied they had a gun; the victim said they stole money and marijuana from his pockets.

The records show Dunn was found and arrested in the same block of his residence, but not in the same apartment. Records also show that he was wearing the same jacket he was wearing in the video.

Dunn admitted beating the minor and stealing the marijuana, but said he did so because he thought the victim was going to steal from him.

On Saturday, Judge William Brady ruled that Dunn be released on his signature, but that he also be placed on electronic home monitoring. Bob Nolan was appointed to represent Dunn. His co-defendant will be represented by the county's public defender office, according to the records. He, however, had no case listed in online DeKalb County court records as of Monday afternoon.

Dunn is due back in court at 9 a.m. Jan. 25.
