Roundup: Yorkville wrestling notches dual meet wins over West Aurora, Sycamore

The Foxes beat West Aurora, 42-33, in a dual meet on Saturday. Joe Roberts (160), Nick Stemmet (195), Ben Stemmet (220) and Derek Butts (106) each notched pins for Yorkville.

Yorkville lost to St. Rita 36-34. Ben Stemmet (220) and Michael Somma (132) earned pins for Yorkville. Lincoln-Way East beat Yorkville 44-31 in the third dual on Saturday. Nick Stemmet (195), Ben Stemmet (220), Jacob Owens (120) and Cole Ferguson (126) each notched pins for Yorkville.

Yorkville beat Sycamore, 44-32, in a dual meet on Dec. 6. Earning pins for Yorkville were Nick Stemmet (195), Brady Fisher (220), Roberts (152) and Zack Katula (160).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Newark: Alyssa Gittins had 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Norsemen past Morris 52-25 on Monday. Meggie Scott added 16 points and 12 assists and Kaitlyn Hatteberg 11 points for Newark (9-4, 3-0 Little Ten).

Scott scored 19 points and dished out five assists in Newark’s 59-42 loss to Annawan on Saturday. Gittins added 10 points and seven rebounds.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Newark: Nathan Christian scored 20 points and hit five 3-pointers in the Norsemen’s 90-45 win over LaMoille/Ohio on Monday.

Alex Tollefson added 13 points and seven assists, Connor Swanson scored 13 points and Corey Jacobson 10.

Parkview Christian: Parkview Christian won two recent games, defeating Our Lady of Sacred Heart from Rockford 72-20 and Kankakee Grace 70-30. Jake Angelo had 19 and 16 points, respectively, in the wins and Sammy Swenson scored 20 and 13.

In the game against Sacred Heart, Angelo surpassed the 1,000-point milestone for his three-year varsity career, the second Parkview player to achieve that honor.

BOYS BOWLING

Yorkville: Caiden Fairless bowled a 659 series to lead Yorkville to a 3,054-2,868 dual win over Ottawa on Tuesday.

Rick Horstmann rolled a 583 series for the Foxes in a 3,159-3,151 dual loss to La Salle-Peru on Monday.

Fairless had a 610 series to lead Yorkville in a 3,550-3,225 dual loss to Lockport on Dec. 5.

GIRLS BOWLING

Yorkville: Allison Nape had the Foxes’ high series of 570 in a 3,482-2,608 dual meet loss to Sycamore on Monday. Taylor Patterson, who rolled a 549, bowled Yorkville’s high game of 208.
