Twisted Burger in McHenry to close at current location Sunday to pave way for Starbucks

McHenry’s Twisted Burger will close Sunday. The specialty burger joint, at 3405 W. Elm St., announced its planned closure on its social media page. The page references future relocation and said customers will receive a free order of fries with burger purchases Sunday.

A developer plans to turn the Twisted Burger building into a Starbucks. City Council members agreed to the proposal last year.

Northbrook-based Cornersite LLC wants to buy the building and remodel it. Renovations would include inside and outside alterations, including an addition to allow for a drive-thru and parking lot redevelopments.

This would be McHenry’s second Starbucks. The existing coffee shop is at 2318 N. Richmond Road, about 2 miles from the Twisted Burger site. Economic Development Director Doug Martin said this week that the developer wants to begin construction by January.

“They have been going through some back-and-forth with engineering,” he said.

Martin said he was unaware if Twisted Burger had secured plans for its relocation.

“We worked with them and have given them some suggestions on where they could potentially go,” Martin said. “I don’t know if they’ve settled on a location. We would like to keep them in McHenry, if possible.”

The casual restaurant has another location in Grayslake, according to its website.

The owners couldn’t be reached for comment Friday.
