Authorities still are trying to learn how a 24-year-old Algonquin man died before his body was discovered in a Chicago dumpster Thursday.

An autopsy was performed Friday on Ian M. Wilke at the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, said Natalia Derevyanny, director of communications for the Cook County Bureau of Administration. Additional testing is required to determine Wilke’s cause of death, she said.

About 8:30 a.m., the driver of a privately owned garbage collection company emptied a dumpster in the 1100 block of South Delano Court West, a slice of the city’s South Loop neighborhood, and discovered the body of a man had fallen from the dumpster and into the truck, Chicago police officer Michael Carroll said.

The medical examiner’s office offered another address where Wilke was found – the 900 block of South Wells Street, a stretch of road behind the Roosevelt Collection residential and retail development. The Chicago Police Department’s Area Central detectives are investigating.

Wilke’s family could not be reached for comment Saturday.
