The body of an Algonquin man was found in a Chicago dumpster Thursday morning, according to authorities.
About 8:30 a.m., the driver of a privately owned garbage trucks company emptied a dumpster in the 1100 block of South Delano Court West, a slice of the city’s South Loop neighborhood, and discovered the body of a deceased man had fallen from the dumpster and into the truck, Chicago police officer Michael Carroll said.
The body was identified as Ian M. Wilke, 24, of Algonquin, police said.
The Cook County Medical Examiner was not immediately available to comment on the cause of Wilke’s death. The Chicago Police Department’s Area Central detectives are investigating.
Wilke’s family could not be reached for comment Friday.
On Thursday morning, Wilke’s sister, Kara Wilke, posted on Facebook asking anyone with information about the whereabouts of her brother to contact the family.
On Friday, she updated her Facebook friends.
“Thank you everyone for sharing our post as we searched for our brother Ian,” she wrote. “Unfortunately his body was found by the police and he is no longer with us. We are so incredibly grateful for the amazing community we have surrounding us, and we will be leaning on you as we cope with this tragedy. Again, thank you everyone for supporting us yesterday, and your continued support in the coming days.”
