HAWTHORN WOODS – Ms. Illinois Senior America Kimberly Albrecht of Hawthorn Woods was named a Top 10 Finalist at the Ms. Senior America competition Oct. 18 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The lyric coloratura soprano competed in talent, philosophy of life, private interview and stage presence over the course of three days in front of live audiences at the Superstar Theatre, Resorts Casino Hotel.
Albrecht’s “Top Ten” performance of “Time to Say Goodbye” by Quarantotto and Sartori was named an “epic rendition” by Time Magazine writer Cady Lang, and Albrecht’s platform focused on “Respect. Gratitude. Generosity,” which she delivered in a gold-sequined Morilee evening gown.
Albrecht was coached by former Miss Indiana America Cyd Glavich of Barrington, Harper and Elmhurst College vocal instructor Susan Dennis, DanceWerks dance instructor Ellen Werksman of Barrington, and Albrecht’s daughter, Brittany Albrecht, Miss Southern Illinois America 2018.
Kimberly Albrecht enjoys singing a wide range of styles, from jazz to classical, and has performed professionally for more than 30 years. She is soprano soloist with Jazz Pizazz, Bravissimo Vocal Ensemble and Barrington Village Singers, has been heard on WDCB radio, and recently performed at Barrington White House, The Garlands, Parker Playhouse, and 210 Restaurant. She's performed, produced and directed musical theater and opera shows for the former Elgin Opera. She directs the Atonement Children's Choir and was Cherub choir director at Barrington United Methodist Church for a decade. A Chicago Tribune-Pioneer Press columnist, she was communication director at BUMC during the 2000s and a TV writer-producer in the 1980s. She holds a master's degree in Radio, TV, Film from Northwestern and a bachelor's degree in theatre arts/English from University of Michigan, where she founded the Women's Glee Club.
