Kirkland man accused of sexual assault of children during 1990s

Police allege Hay had two child victims and assaults lasted over several years

SYCAMORE – A Kirkland man is accused of multiple sex crimes against children in connection with assaults in the 1990s, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office officials said Friday.

Gregory N. Hay, 60, of the 200 block of North Sixth Street, Kirkland, is charged with five counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. He is being held in the DeKalb County Jail on $100,000 bond, requiring him to post $10,000 bail to be released.

The most serious charge, aggravated criminal sexual assault, typically carries a sentence of six to 30 years in prison, and Hay could be sentenced to multiple prison terms if convicted of multiple counts.

According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, investigators learned Aug. 28 that a woman had reported to Kirkland police that she had been a victim of a sexual assault as a child between 1991 and ’97, when she was younger than 13. Another victim also was involved, the release shows.

Hay was arrested Friday at his home and questioned before being placed under arrest, police said. Police continue to investigate the incident, the release said.
