Algonquin man gets probation for LSD possession in 2016

A 21-year-old Algonquin man was sentenced to probation Wednesday after pleading guilty to charges accusing him of possessing about 20 pieces of blotter paper containing LSD.

Tyler Diehl of the 100 block of Wildwood Road entered a plea deal Wednesday and pleaded guilty to possession of 15 to 200 objects containing LSD.

The charge typically is punishable by four to 15 years in prison.

Police said they found Diehl on July 13, 2016, with 20 pieces of blotter, or absorbent, paper and about 8 grams of ecstasy, according to a criminal complaint filed in McHenry County court.

McHenry County Judge Sharon Prather sentenced Diehl to two years of probation and 92 days in the county jail.

He also must pay $4,500 in court fines and fees.

Diehl received credit for jail time he already served after his arrest, and was released from the McHenry County Jail on Wednesday morning, records show.

Prosecutors agreed to dismiss additional charges against Diehl, including possession with intent to deliver ecstasy.

Also dismissed was a misdemeanor retail theft charge stemming from August 2017 out of Algonquin, and a September 2016 felony charge of criminal trespass to a residence, McHenry County public records show.

Diehl is projected to complete his probation term by September 2020.
