FRANKLIN GROVE – Franklin Creek Conservation Association recently acquired a house and land as part of Franklin Creek State Natural Area.

Cleanup on the property started June 30 along with renovations to convert the house into a nature education center.

Volunteers Jim Lillyman and Dave Lawson whipped and removed poison ivy, while Donna Ducharme; Katie McBride, education program coordinator; and Megan Sneyd, intern, cut down trees, removed invasive species and picked up garbage.

To help keep the project running smoothly, a timeline has been created and more volunteer days are being scheduled.

For those interested in volunteering with the project, the next work day is scheduled for 7 a.m. to noon Sept. 29.

No experience is necessary, all help is welcome. Volunteers should bring water bottles, sturdy shoes, bug spray, sunscreen and lunch or snacks.

Call the Franklin Creek Conservation Association at 815-456-2718 for more information or to sign up to volunteer.
