Will County clerk seeks judges for Nov. 6 general election

Will County Clerk, Nancy Schultz Voots, is recruiting judges to work the polls to begin preparation for the Nov. 6 general election.

“Election judges play an important role in the voting process,” Schultz Voots said in a news release. “As hands-on participants in democracy, they ensure our elections are administered fairly and in accordance with the law. We simply couldn’t have an election without their dedication and commitment.”

Election judges can earn $150 for each election contingent upon attending an election judge training class. Judges can earn more for taking on extra responsibilities.

All interested applicants must be U.S. citizens, registered voters or high school seniors in good standing. Additionally, they must be able to speak, read and write English and be skilled in the fundamental rules of arithmetic. Election judges cannot be a precinct committeeman or a candidate on the ballot for any office.

Judges are responsible for setting up election equipment in polling places, opening the polling place promptly at 6 a.m., the proper and lawful conduct of the election in the polling place, ensuring every person qualified to vote is permitted to vote, among other items.
