STREATOR CHAPTER CM OF PEO
Streator Chapter CM of the PEO Sisterhood celebrated its 90th anniversary April 21 at First United Methodist Church. Streator Sister Chapter IC were invited guests to the brunch. The club was founded Jan. 21, 1869, by seven students at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. The Streator Chapter originated April 17, 1928, with Louise Dicus, Eva Fairbairn, Isabel White and 12 other prominent ladies of the community becoming the 88th Chapter. Former members Alice Funk and Dicus served as officers at the state level.
Joy Ahearn, Jane Farero and Jean Blakemore presented a program of what life was like in Streator in 1928 and reviewed the past 90 years to the present time. Chapter IC presented a song that was sung on the 50th anniversary of the group with words written by former IC member Helen Knoedler.
PEO is an international philanthropic educational organization that encourages the education of women.
