Bolingbrook teacher recently named a 'hero'

B.J. Ward Elementary School fifth-grade teacher Brandon Guernsey was recently named as a “Symetra Hero in the Classroom” by Symetra, Gallagher Benefit Services and the Chicago Bears at a surprise presentation during a school assembly.

Guernsey teaches fifth grade at the K-5 school in Bolingbrook, part of Valley View School District 365U.

B.J. Ward Elementary School received a $2,000 donation for classroom books and supplies.

Guernsey received a personalized Chicago Bears jersey, a football autographed by running back Jordan Howard and a trip to the Bears game on Dec. 24, where he was honored along with 16 other Chicago-area teachers for their excellence in the classroom and their dedication to students.
