Moveable Feast to move into Front Street Cantina space

WHEATON – Geneva-based cafe and catering business Moveable Feast plans to open this summer in the space at 112 N. Hale St. in downtown Wheaton that currently houses Front Street Cantina.

Moveable Feast recently announced on its Facebook page that it will be opening a second location this summer in downtown Wheaton. After having a presence in downtown Wheaton for 27 years, Front Street Cantina plans to close its doors by mid-February, as the restaurant's owners are retiring.

The restaurant originally opened Jan. 31, 1991, at 127 W. Front St. as Front Street Cocina. Wheaton had prohibited the use of the word "cantina," according to a poster in the restaurant's window announcing the closing of Front Street Cantina. The city at one time was a dry community and did not allow establishments to sell alcohol.

Front Street Cantina also has locations in Naperville and Plainfield. According to its website, Moveable Feast is a neighborhood cafe and catering company that brings "artisanal cooking from our kitchen to your table."

"We responsibly source our ingredients from local growers to create seasonal salads, sandwiches, meals to-go and fresh baked pastries," its website states. "Every dish we prepare is made from scratch daily, using foods that nourish and support our community."

The cafe is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Moveable Feast gained national attention after talk show host and actress Oprah Winfrey named its brownies as one of her favorite things.

Moveable Feast also has catered parties for Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner, U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan and the Obama family, according to its website.
