Cause of Skooter’s Roadhouse fire remains undetermined

SHOREWOOD – The cause of a fire that sent smoke and flames through a popular Shorewood country-western venue's roof remained undetermined almost a month after the blaze.

The Troy Fire Protection District still was waiting for reports from the Illinois Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office on Wednesday, Troy Fire Chief Andy Doyle said.

The kitchen area of Skooter's Roadhouse, 700 W. Jefferson St., Shorewood, caught fire the evening of Nov. 27, causing an estimated $300,000 in damage and closing off everything but the north end of the barbecue restaurant.

Several ATF agents and a K-9 unit and one Fire Marshal investigator remained on the scene into the early morning of Nov. 28, then completed that portion of the investigation later the same day.

An electrical engineer also conducted an investigation.

The fire was contained to the kitchen because firefighters reacted so quickly, Doyle said, and the area was under construction Wednesday.

Private parties that require food are being catered at the venue, Doyle said.
