Yorkville police took two suspects in a Batavia bank robbery into custody at the Menards store on Route 47 Tuesday afternoon.

Police said they received information at 2:25 p.m. that a vehicle that was involved in the robbery of the Old Second Bank at 1991 W. Wilson St. in Batavia was traveling into city limits. Police said officers found the unoccupied vehicle in the Menards parking lot. As officers were securing the area around the store, they saw two people who matched the description of the bank robbers and took them into custody.

Officers then assisted in securing the store so that evidence could be located.

Yorkville police and Kendall County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene with a dozen squad cars and police K-9s.

Menards, which had been closed for about two hours as police sought the suspects and collected evidence, was then reopened.

In connection with the incident in Batavia, Batavia High School was put on soft lockdown from about 2:08 to 2:28 p.m., according to Batavia School District 101 communications manager Sue Gillerlain. She said students were dismissed at the normal time.
