Morris laundromat security camera footage shows 2 attempting to 'cook' meth

MORRIS — Video obtained from the Morris Police Department through a freedom of information request shows the two responsible for exploding methamphetamine materials in a Morris laundromat struggling to extinguish the flames while a fellow laundromat goer tries to finish her laundry.

Jonathan Walters, 39, and Nicole Gonzalez, 42, were arrested in November after their mobile meth lab exploded at Wash 'N Dry on Bedford Road.

The video shows the two entering the Wash 'N Dry with apparent "meth-making" materials, proceeding to combine them, the contents exploding and then catching fire. Walters and Gonzalez attempt to stamp out the fire while a woman in the background can be seen continuing to load her laundry in a machine. Gonzalez later leaves the scene, and Walters succeeds in extinguishing the flames.

The laundromat is always open but does not always have staff on the premises. Firefighters did not find any fire at the scene of the explosion, but they did find what appeared to be a damaged lunchbox just outside the business.

The Kane County Bomb Squad and the Joliet Metropolitan Area Narcotics Squad were called to the scene to assist.

In May, Gonzalez was sentenced to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections with two years of parole after her release for possessing material to manufacture methamphetamine. Walters was sentenced to five years for the same charges, according to online court records.
