DeKALB – Two open assistant principal positions at DeKalb High School are expected to be filled, part of a list of personnel changes on the docket for Tuesday night’s DeKalb School District 428 Board meeting.
The first position, assistant principal for academic programs, was left by James Horne, who will become the high school's next principal after the board approved his contract in April and decided not to renew the contract of Principal Michele Albano.
The second, assistant principal of operations, will be left by Albert Biancalana, who is being recommended to take a physical education teacher position at the high school. Biancalana also is the head coach of the boys basketball team.
These spots would be filled by Amonaquenette Parker, an assistant principal at Huntley Middle School, and Sean Potts, the dean of students at DeKalb High School.
Interim Superintendent Brad Hawk said that Parker’s and Potts’ individual strengths and positions will be evaluated before assigning them to one of the two roles.
Parker currently earns a $73,664.64 salary, while Potts is earning $72,000. If the personnel changes are approved, both will receive a $96,226 salary.
Horne’s salary was set at $134,670.91, which the board based off the salaries of high school principals of similar-sized districts that also are members of the Large Unit District Association.
Biancalana currently makes $85,000, but he will receive a $76,945 salary if he’s reassigned. The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the D-428 Education Center, 901 S. First St.
