Kane County deputy Tindall to seek GOP nomination for sheriff

GENEVA – A third Kane County Sheriff's Office deputy, Sgt. Kevin Tindall of Sugar Grove, announced in a news release that he will run for Kane County sheriff.

Lt. Willie Mayes of Aurora and Sgt. Ron Hain of Sugar Grove both have announced their intention to seek the Democratic nomination for sheriff. Tindall will run as a Republican, the release stated.

Tindall will formally announce his campaign at 6:30 p.m. May 22 near the Veteran’s Memorial at the Kane County Government Center, 719 Batavia Ave., Geneva, the release stated.

"I chose the timing of my announcement out of respect for police officers who have given their lives in protecting the public," Tindall stated in the release. "And I chose the location out of respect for the men and women who gave their lives in military service to protect our country."

Tindall, 51, a 1983 graduate of Kaneland High School, is a supervising sergeant for the patrol division and commander of the Kane County Bomb Squad, the release stated.

Tindall is also part of the FBI Stabilization Task Force, which consists of FBI and local bomb technicians who are jointly trained in advanced bomb technician capabilities.

From 1988-2008, Tindall served as a paramedic/firefighter with the Sugar Grove Fire Department, retiring as an assistant chief, the release stated.

Tindall was elected to the fire district board for a two-year term from 2009 to 2011, the release stated.

A lifelong Republican, and active member and volunteer of the Western Kane County Republican Party, Tindall is a fiscal conservative who will work to run the sheriff's office on budget, the release stated.

"I will work closely with [Kane County Board] Chairman [Chris] Lauzen and the Kane County Board to make decisions that benefit the taxpayers without sacrificing public safety," Tindall stated in the release.

Tindall will make fighting bullying, cyber crimes and drug use a priority of his administration, the release stated.

Tindall has an associate's degree in emergency medical services/paramedic and an associate's degree in fire science from Waubonsee Community College, the release stated.

Mayes formally kicked off his campaign May 12, while Hain will formally announce his campaign May 18.
