CARPENTERSVILLE – A Carpentersville man has been sentenced to eight years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for beating and choking his girlfriend, according to a news release from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Luis F. Bustos, 24, of the 700 block of Alma Court, was found guilty of aggravated domestic battery, a Class 2 felony, according to the release.
On May 27, Bustos and his girlfriend argued in their home, prosecutors said. Bustos punched his girlfriend in the head, knocking her down, and then grabbed her around the throat, choking her, prosecutors said.
He then punched the victim in the abdomen, prosecutors said.
At the time of the incident, Bustos was on parole for a conviction for attempted home invasion, according to the release.
Bustos must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence. He received credit for the 333 days he served in the Kane County Jail, where he had been held since his arrest, according to the release.
