Joliet police: Prostitute shoots man in hand in botched robbery

JOLIET – One man was shot after he and a prostitute allegedly tried robbing a Joliet man Wednesday.

The incident occurred at 3:29 p.m. at a residence in the zero block of Garfield Street in Joliet, according to Deputy Police Chief Al Roechner.

“A 21-year-old man contacted a woman on the Backpage.com website and they agreed to exchange money for sex,” Roechner said. “When she showed up, she produced a handgun and tried to rob him, but the victim struggled with her.”

Roechner said the woman then called for Reginald J. Morrow II, 25, who’d accompanied her to the house, to come inside.

Morrow then started fighting with the victim.

“According to the victim, Morrow and the woman both reached for the gun and it discharged. Morrow was shot in the right hand,” Roechner said.

The victim then fled the residence and called police. The suspects were not there when officers arrived.

“But Naperville police later called detectives to report a man from the Joliet area was at Edwards Hospital being treated for a gunshot wound to his hand,” Roechner said.

Morrow, of the 2200 block of North Bogdan Lane, was arrested on a charge of armed robbery.

Roechner said Thursday detectives were still trying to locate the other suspect.
