The Annawan Bravettes captured their second IHSA Class 1A State championship, defeating Mendon Unity 39-37 Saturday night at Redbird Arena.
Annawan also won state in 2014.
Junior All-Stater Jayde VanHyfte scored 23 points, netting all 12 of the Bravettes' fourth-quarter points as Annawan rallied to victory.
• Byron blitzed Bloomington Central Catholic 55-32 in the 2A championship. It was the Tigers' second straight state title.
Byron won the Princeton Sectional, defeating Hall 38-31.
• Hall grads shine: The two winning coaches from Saturday's state finals are both products of Hall High School. Eric Yerly of Byron graduated from Hall in 1998 and Jason Burkiewicz of Annawan followed in 1999.
