DIXON – The body recovered from the Rock River on Saturday was positively identified Monday as 27-year-old Zachary O’Bryant.
An autopsy done Monday afternoon indicated that the preliminary cause of death was drowning, and there were no signs of trauma and no indication of foul play, Lee County Coroner Jesse Partington said. Toxicology test results are pending.
A memorial service is planned for 6 p.m. today for O’Bryant, also known as Zachary Schwertferger, who last was seen about 11 p.m. Oct. 18 leaving PatiO’s Irish Pub, 222 W. First St.
The service will be held there for those 21 and older. Those attending are asked to have any photos they might have of Zac printed for a display.
He was the son of Suzy O’Bryant and his girlfriend was Ashley Wellman-Morris, both of Dixon. They reported him missing the evening of Oct. 20.
A search crew from the Dixon Rural Fire Department found his body around 3:45 p.m. Saturday near the Dixon Ford dealership at 489 state Route 2, about a half-mile downstream from where tracking dogs indicated he went into the river.
