Donald L. Horst, 98, Mt. Morris, died on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016 at KSB Hospital, Dixon.

Don was born May 1, 1918 in Mt. Morris, the son of John and Amanda (Stukenberg) Horst.

He graduated from Mt. Morris High School in the Class of 1935.

Don studied music at Wartburg College, and he studied traffic management at the freight traffic institute in Chicago.

He married Arlene Zumdahl on June 24, 1944, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 22, 1998.

He was employed 44 years at Kable News Company in the traffic department.

Don was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mt. Morris, where he served on the church council and served as the Sunday School superintendent.

He was also a member of the board of directors of the magazine shippers association, Ogle County Farm Bureau, Rock River Valley Traffic Club, Easter Seal Committee, and United Way.

Don is survived by three daughters, Christine (Ron) Lewis, Mt. Morris, Donna Jenkins, Peoria, and Debra Ovenden, Mt. Morris; 10 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arlene; infant son; brothers, Merville and Leland.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 20 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mt. Morris, with Rev. Josh Ehrler officiating.

Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Mt. Morris.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
