Paisano's Pizza & Grill to open second location in Sugar Grove

“Paisano” in Italian means friend, and Dick and Annette Theobald knew when they opened their restaurant they wanted to be friends with the entire community, so they named their restaurant Paisano’s Pizza & Grill.

They opened their doors in Elburn in 2003 after spending nearly a year renovating the building. At Paisano’s, they not only specialize in homemade and made-to-order pizza but also calzones, pasta, Italian sandwiches, burgers and more.

“We are a carryout and delivery establishment only,” Annette Theobald said. “After 10 years here, we learned that people wanted a place where folks could sit down and enjoy our food with a cold beverage, so we opened Eddie Gaedel Pub and Grill down the street in 2013.”

Patrons can order off the menu at Eddie Gaedel’s or order Paisano’s pizza and have it delivered to the restaurant.

Since business has been booming over the past several years, the Theobalds have decided to add a second Paisano’s Pizza & Grill location in Sugar Grove at 98 Main St., in the former Sugar Grove Cleaners building. This location also will be carryout and delivery-only like the Elburn location.

The Sugar Grove location will allow Paisano’s to deliver to Big Rock, Sugar Grove, Yorkville and parts of Aurora.

“As much as we would like to have another sit-down location, many restaurant government regulations do not make it feasible for us to do it at this time,” Theobald said.

Annette and her husband, Dick, wear many hats and put in a lot of hours to run the restaurants, but they have a lot of great staff members they trust to oversee the restaurants when they are not available.

The Theobalds are now hiring cooks, drivers and counter help for their Sugar Grove location. Anyone interested in applying may visit www.paisanospizzagrill.com.

Pizza is definitely the No. 1 seller for Paisano’s, but pies are a close second. They have two different pies every month, in addition to their famous chocolate éclair pie, cookies and brownies.

The purchase of the new Sugar Grove site took place June 28. Renovations are expected to take 60 to 90 days. Paisano’s will be hosting a contest for patrons to guess the opening date.

Visit the Paisano's Facebook page or call the Elburn location at 630-365-9477 with a guess for a chance to win a Paisano's gift certificate.

“We want to thank the community for their support over the years,” Theobald said. “People have so many choices when it comes to where they eat, and we appreciate when they choose us.”
