JOLIET – Joliet Central High School senior Peter Kyle Gerstenkorn was recently awarded the CITGO Petroleum Corporation Scholarship.
The renewable scholarship of $4,000 was presented to Gerstenkorn by Human Resource Manager Dick Albaugh at the high school.
CITGO Petroleum Corporation established the scholarship program to assist the children of CITGO employees and retirees who plan to continue their education in college.
Gerstenkorn has been a member of the Joliet Cyborgs Robotics Team, Key Club, cross country, soccer and volleyball teams. He has been inducted into the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society.
He was a Mr. J Finalist and a Kiwanis Student of the Month, and won first place in the IIT Physics Bridge Contest. Gerstenkorn has taken eight AP and dual-credit courses. He will attend Iowa State University in the fall to study mechanical engineering.
