DeKalb's Feed'Em Soup to close at end of month

DeKALB – The Feed’em Soup Community Project will close its location at 251 E Lincoln Highway in downtown DeKalb at the end of the month.

The nonprofit organization announced the decision on its Facebook page last week.

“We are sad to announce that after 7 years and thousands of meals served to those in need in our community, we will be closing our doors at the end of this month,” the post said. “We thank all of those who have supported us over the years and made this project possible.”

In March, the nonprofit's leaders said the organization had been struggling after losing a catering contract.

By that time, Feed’em Soup had already reduced dinner services from three times a week to once a week because of budget constraints.

The organization had hoped to fill a $35,000 budget gap with fundraisers.

Feed’em Soup had offered buffet-style meal services in DeKalb, on a pay-as-you-can basis.
