WESTMONT – The Westmont Park District Board honored Commissioner Robert “Bob” Bernas for his 43 years of volunteer service to the district.

As a token of appreciation, the board has named the new property on South Wilmette Avenue the Robert W. Bernas Park.

At the May 11 meeting, the board thanked Bernas for his dedication in preserving open space and providing recreational opportunities for the community. As board president for more than 35 years, Bernas helped the district grow from three to 20 public parks.

“His unwavering support of the Westmont Park District has helped create a park system that we can all take pride in for years to come,” the news release stated.
