Robert P. Brotheridge

GALENA – Robert P. “Bob” Brotheridge, 77, of Galena and formerly Sterling, passed away peacefully with family at his side on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015, after a brief battle with lung cancer.

He was born on June 6, 1938 in Sterling to Robert A. and Marjory (Pexton) Brotheridge. He graduated from Sterling High School in 1956, and the next year married Lois Vlad at United Methodist Church in Sterling. She preceded him in death in July 2006.

He married Carol (Reiter) Callahan-Godwin at St. Michael’s Church in Galena in October 2009.

He worked for Illinois Bell Co. for more than 36 years, and was an electrical inspector for the city of Galena for 23 years at the time of his death. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Galena.

He is survived by his wife; children, Mark (Tammy) Brotheridge of Edgerton, Wisconsin, Michelle (Steve) Allen of Galena, and Jon Brotheridge of Dubuque, Iowa; stepchildren Michael Callahan of Evanston, and Ann Tracey of Elizabeth; his mother; siblings, Sally (Al) Dixon of Arizona, Jane Shipma of Sterling, and Linda (Roger) Koster of Decatur; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Furlong Funeral Chapel in Galena, with a Knights of Columbus prayer service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Galena, with the Revs. David Reese, Jack Dennerlein and Stanislaw Kos officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at St. Mary’s Bally Hall in Galena.

Memorials may be made to St. Michael’s Church, the Galena Food Pantry, the Galena EMS or Hospice of Dubuque.
