Newman High School October Student of the Month: Brady Rude

STERLING – Brady Rude, 17, of Sterling, is Newman Central Catholic High School's October Student of the Month. He is the son of Brock and Sharon Rude and has a brother, Nick, 21.

Favorite class: Anatomy. Our bodies are so astonishing and complex.

Least-favorite class: Physics. It's just always bringing me down.

Favorite teacher: Cindy Everett. She helped me develop a love for chemistry by making it interesting and understandable… and she let us blow things up every once in a while!

School activities: Football, track, Student Council, Student Ambassadors, Newman Recycling Club, Building Lasting Impressions that Never Die.

Civic, church, volunteer or other activities in which you participate: Volunteer at the Jack Mabley Center for special occasions.

What will you do after high school? I am thinking about attending Davidson College (near Charlotte, North Carolina) to major in neuroscience.

What is something you learned in high school that you think you will never use? Complex numbers ... they're not even real.

What kind of music are you listening to? Rap. Mac Miller, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar.

Do you have a hobby? Stargazing

Is there a celebrity whom you look like/act like/feel like? My girlfriend says I look like Dave Franco.

What's the one thing in your life you can't do without? Coffee.

What is your advice for surviving high school? Drink lots of coffee, familiarize yourself with Easybib.com, and keep your pencils in a leather pencil case.

What scares you? Spiders. One time I stepped on one and its babies scattered everywhere.

What's something about you that nobody knows? I want to live in Denmark.

If you could ask President Obama any question, what would it be? How would you feel if Trump won?

If you could try any job for a day, what would it be? Astronaut.

If you could go anywhere in the world for free, where would it be? Iceland, to watch the aurora.

What is the last good book you read? "The 48 Laws of Power" by Robert Greene. It's technically a business book, but it tells stories of people with power throughout the world's history and what good and bad came from the power. You can learn what to do and not to do. Tons of great quotes by extraordinary people!

What is your proudest moment? Losing the football game to Bishop Mac last Saturday. Our team became a family, and I couldn't be more proud to be a part of that.

Who is your hero/role model? My grandpa, Mike Rude, of Sterling. He has every reason to not want to keep working, but he is the most persistent, humble, and hardest-working person I know. I still have a great deal to learn from him.

Is there anything else you would want people to know about you? We short people have a great perspective on life because we are always looking up.

Is there someone you'd like to send a shout out to? My parents – they do a little bit for me here and there.
