Blue Goose Market looking at Batavia for possible 2nd location

BATAVIA – The family behind a longtime St. Charles business is considering opening a second location in the Tri-Cities.

Blue Goose Market President Paul Lencioni said he is taking a “serious” look at the Batavia Plaza shopping center as the location for a second Blue Goose Market grocery store.

The address would be 138 W. Wilson St. in Batavia. The Walgreens store at that site is going to move to a new building under construction next door.

“I’d love for it to work, but we’re not at final decisions yet,” Lencioni said Tuesday.

The Blue Goose Market has moved around within St. Charles in the past, but there never have been two separate Blue Goose locations in operation at the same time by the market’s current organization, Lencioni said.

Lencioni has had a long-term plan to grow the Blue Goose brand. He began considering the Batavia site after ongoing discussions with his friend and BEI Vice President Austin Dempsey.

BEI, or Batavia Enterprises, owns Batavia Plaza.

Along with St. Charles, Lencioni calls Batavia his hometown because he attended Batavia High School for his junior and senior year in the early 1990s. The Batavia location would be a full-service store and offer quality products at affordable prices, Lencioni said.

Even with the existence of the Berkeley Finer Foods grocery store directly east of downtown Batavia, Lencioni said there is enough research to indicate Blue Goose could be successful in Batavia Plaza.

“Everybody is really encouraging,” Lencioni said. “It would be a phenomenal place if it works out.”
