DOWNERS GROVE – After 11 years of owning a cafe in Darien, Vladas Kriauciunas decided he wanted to open another restaurant. After several months, the result of his efforts is the new Keystone Bar and Grill.
The restaurant, 7231 Lemont Road in Downers Grove, has been open for a month and celebrated its grand opening Sept. 26. The site, a former Fuddrucker’s, sat vacant for at least five years.
Kriauciunas said he began renting the location in May 2014 and began applying for permits in December. He then began tearing out everything inside.
“Every door, every wall, everything,” said Adam Miloradovk, general manager of the restaurant.
Kriauciunas said the renovation process took nine months to finish, with the help of his sons and brother. The new restaurant has a party room and outdoor patio.
Miloradovk said despite the name being a bar and grill, the restaurateurs considers their new venture to be an upscale restaurant. Some of the menu items will include salmon, kale salad and gorgonzola and grilled pear salad, in addition to burgers and wings.
“We really pride ourselves on the food,” he said.
The first month has been good, but Miloradovk said they’re trying looking to implement a lunch menu.
“Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays are really good. We’re looking to build up lunch service,” he said.
Miloradovk said they would be willing to take suggestions about items that should be included on the menu. He also said they’re willing to partner with neighborhood organizations.
