St. Charles Township Highway Commissioner retires

ST. CHARLES TOWNSHIP – An employee of the St. Charles Township Road District has retired after 32 years of service.

Ron Johnson’s last day at the township was July 19, according to a news release. He began working for the township’s road district on July 11, 1983, and was elected in 1997 to be the township’s highway commissioner.

During his time as highway commissioner, Johnson served as president of the Kane County Township Highway Commissioners Association for 14 years, the release stated.

Johnson also was on the board for the Township Highway Commissioners of Illinois, where he served as treasurer for four years, vice president for two years, president for two years.

Johnson spent four years on the Township Officials of Illinois board and the Township Officials of Kane County as secretary, according to the release.

Johnson was active in all Kane County projects that have involved the St. Charles Township Road District, the release stated.

Johnson’s colleague Steve Frohling on July 8 was appointed to take over for Johnson as commissioner, effective July 20. Frohling has worked with Johnson at the township since 1983, according to the release.

Frohling previously replaced Johnson as township foreman in 1997 when Johnson was elected highway commissioner.
