Cubs trade Dundee-Crown grad Elliot Soto to Miami

After five years in the Chicago Cubs organization, Dundee-Crown graduate Elliot Soto is on his way to Miami.

On Friday afternoon, hours from Major League Baseball's non-waiver Trade Deadline, several MLB reporters said the Cubs were sending Soto and another minor-leaguer to Miami in exchange for veteran right-hander Dan Haren. The Cubs confirmed the transaction on Twitter shortly before the 3 p.m. deadline.

Soto, the 2007 Northwest Herald Baseball Player of the Year, was batting .275 in 88 games with the Double-A Tennessee Smokies this season. Known for his glovework, Soto committed seven errors all season, playing 84 of his games at shortstop and three at second base.

Soto has been in the Cubs organization since Chicago selected him in the 15th round of the 2010 Baseball Amateur Draft. He started last season serving a 50-game suspension for a violation of minor league baseball's drug program.
