Gary Mullis of DeKalb won first-place sponsorship in a songwriting contest in Lexington, Kentucky. Mullis entered three songs into the contest, which he has been entering for the past eight years.
Mullis won a Platinum Record award for Country Song of the Year for “Remembering Hee Haw.” He also won first place for “He’s a Legend,” which is a tribute to Little Jimmy Dickens, who died Jan. 2, 2015. Darrell Glover of Lexington, Alabama, will perform the two songs.
He also won an award for “Racing at Sycamore Speedway,” which has been played on the WLBK Radio Trading Post.
The three songs will be played on two radio stations in Alabama and Tennessee.
Mullis won honorable mention for a music video for his song “Rolling Down the Road.”
Mullis also is writing a book titled “Gary Mullis Growing Up On Farm Country Music Nashville Stars.”
