It is a great loss to the Sauk Valley area that Dr. Paul Maxwell Jr. has retired as of March 6. His retirement is well deserved, but he will be sorely missed as a doctor, but more so for being an outstanding person.
I have known Dr. Maxwell for 21 years and have seen lots of doctors. None in any form measures up to Dr. Maxwell.
I first knew of Dr. Maxwell through a relative. Then he took over my dad’s case when every other doctor had given up. Dr. Maxwell knew where to send him, and my father lived a long life.
He, personally, has saved my life three times. He has sent me all over, including Detroit, Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison and Davenport. One of the great things about Dr. Paul is he knows many other doctors, and he has no ego. If he can’t do it, he is not afraid to find someone who can.
The best qualities of Dr. Maxwell were his compassion, humanity and willingness to listen. You could speak about anything with Dr. Maxwell. I would not be writing this if not for Dr. Maxwell. He put a total of 18 stents in me to keep me alive. We used to talk about putting in a zipper to make it easier.
As I close, all I can say is, Thank you. Your retirement is richly deserved, and enjoy Italy. Enjoy life, my friend, and remember how many lives you saved. It is an honor to call you doctor and friend.
