LISLE – A Lisle man was charged with robbing the Oak Hill Shell gas station in early March, according to a Lisle Police Department news release.
John Russell Smith, 35, of the 4500 block of Beau Monde Drive, is accused of demanding money from the gas station clerk's register after displaying a black handgun at 3:56 a.m. March 2 at 2001 Ogden Ave., the release stated. He was wearing all black, with a bandanna wrapped around his face.
After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, Smith fled westbound on foot from the scene, according to the release.
After an extensive follow-up investigation by the Lisle Police Department, a local subject was identified as the subject in the case, and detectives arrested Smith on March 4 in the laundry room common area of an apartment building at 4500 Beau Monde Drive, the release stated.
Detectives served a search warrant on the apartment where Smith resides and located a black semi-automatic pellet gun, shoes and a bandanna, which were allegedly used by Smith during the robbery, according to the release.
On March 5, Smith was charged with a single felony count of aggravated robbery, the release stated. His bond was set at $200,000.
