ROUND LAKE – Election night was celebratory for District 116 when voters approved a $29 million referendum to fund renovations to Round Lake High School. The referendum had previously failed in March 2014.
This time around, the measure passed with 60.33 percent of the votes, according to election results.
The funds will go to toward construction of 24 additional general teaching spaces, four STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) labs, a new gymnasium, more common areas, enhanced circulation, and technology and security upgrades.
“We must thank our community at large for the support that they have provided to make this plan a reality,” Supt. Constance R. Rollins said in a statement. “All stakeholders, those with children and without, came out and confirmed that they collectively understand and support the need to add onto and renovate portions of Round Lake High School.”
Construction is anticipated to begin next June, with a soft finish anticipated by August 2016.
Updates will be posted on the district's website at www.rlas-116.org.
