BROOKFIELD
DUI
• Jason D. Gwin, 34, of Maywood, was charged at 2:23 a.m. Nov. 2 with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop for speeding and weaving between lanes in the 8800 block of West 31st Street. Gwin had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and there was a strong odor of marijuana in his vehicle. A half bottle of cognac was found on the floor of the vehicle and a bag of marijuana was found in the console. Gwin also was charged with driving with a suspended license, aggravated assault, resisting a police officer, possession of marijuana, transporting open alcohol, no proof of insurance, improper lane use and speeding.
• Dino Mujcinovic, 28, of Wood Dale, was charged at 3:23 a.m. Nov. 2 with driving under the influence following a traffic stop for speeding, disobeying a stop sign southbound on Kemman Avenue and leading police on a brief chase. Mujcinovic was ordered out of the car at gunpoint after failing to follow orders to get out of the Mercedes he was driving three times. He had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Inside the vehicle, police found a 16-year-old male passenger who was passed out in the front seat and intoxicated. Mujcinovic said he just met the youth at a club and was giving him a ride home. Mujcinovic also was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, having no insurance, disobeying a stop sign, failing to signal and curfew violations regarding the juvenile, who also was cited for consumption of alcohol by a minor and curfew.
Burglary and theft
• Nine kegs were reported stolen Oct. 30 from behind a bar in the 3700 block of Grand Boulevard. Video footage showed two men carrying the kegs away. The kegs were valued at $150 apiece.
• Windows to a garage were broken in what was believed to be a burglary attempt Nov. 1 in the 4500 block of Grove Avenue. The garage’s service door appeared to also have been forced open.
• Five pallets were reported stolen Oct. 28 from a business in the 9100 block of Broadway Avenue. A security camera recorded a driver pulling up to the rear of the business and a man loading the pallets into a red pickup truck.
RIVERSIDE
Laser pointers mean
trouble for four boys
A group of kids fooling around with laser pointers were warned to stop after a disturbance at 10:20 p.m. Oct. 25 at Quincy Street and Delaplaine Road.
Police were called in on a report of two adults and four juveniles creating a disturbance. The adult men said the kids had been flashing the lasers into their windows and it was scaring their children.
The four juveniles were found and questioned and said they were having fun. Police confiscated the lasers.
No chickens allowed
A resident of the 200 block of Herrick Road was fined $35 for keeping chickens on private property, which is not allowed in Riverside.
DUI
Aixa J. Lopez, 28, of the 2500 block of West Cortland Avenue, Chicago, was charged at 2:05 a.m. Oct. 23 with driving under the influence following a traffic stop for operating a vehicle in an unusual manner in the 2600 block of South Harlem Avenue. Lopez had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath when questioned by police and refused to take a breath test. She also was charged with several moving violations.
Property damage
A resident of the 900 block of East Quincy Street reported Oct. 21 having his tires slashed on one vehicle and having another vehicle flooded with water. The resident said someone put a hose in his 2002 GMC Yukon and flooded it with water. A Ford Explorer he owned had two tires slashed.
Hit-and-run crash
A women reported being side-swiped by another vehicle Oct. 23 while traveling south on Kimbark Avenue. The victim called police as she attempted to follow the vehicle that struck her, described as a white SUV but lost sight of it around Gage Avenue.
Theft
A package delivered to a residence Oct. 20 in the 3000 block of Harlem Avenue was reported stolen. The victim said this was the fifth time in eight months that packages have been stolen after being delivered.
LYONS
Cellphones, iPad stolen
Police were called at 3:54 p.m. Oct. 29 to T-Mobile, 3850 S. Harlem Ave., to investigate a report of a retail theft. A store employee told police that while he was busy with other customers, two men came in and grabbed two cellphones and an iPad and then fled the area in a black vehicle. Police reported it could have been the same men who committed retail theft in Broadview earlier in the day. The men were described as black, in their early 20s and wearing knit caps. One of the men was described as having dreadlocks. The incident is still under investigation.
Overturned portable toilet
A portable toilet was reported overturned at 12:29 p.m. Oct. 25 at Anna and Ogden Avenues. The Department of Public Works was contacted to turn it upright.
Controlled substance
possession
William M. Rodey, 25, of the 3900 block of South Haas Avenue, was charged at 7:35 p.m. Oct. 29 with possession of a controlled substance after police found 20 pills of Clonazepam in his possession. Rodey also was arrested and held on an active in-state warrant at the same time.
Attempted burglary of vehicle leaves damage
A caller reported someone tried to break into his vehicle at 7:04 a.m. Oct. 27 the previous night in the 7300 block of West Oakwood Avenue. Multiple at and resulted in multiple instances of damage.
Property damage
• Police responded to a call about a theft from a vehicle that was in progress at 8:06 p.m. Oct. 25 in the 7300 block of West Oakwood Avenue. The caller also told police they had been attacked by the offenders. Police met a man in front of his residence who said that someone tried to steal his radio and attacked his son. Witness nearby reported not seeing anything and both men appeared intoxicated. While police were trying to figure out what had happened, two of the man’s sons began to fight and had to be separated. Police learned during the dispute that one had broken the hinges on the door to the apartment building again after previously being charged with damaging property at the location. Police charged Sonny R. Whitehead, 25, of the 7300 block of West Oakwood Avenue with knowingly damaging property.
• Christopher Whitehead, 19, of the 7300 block of South Lawndale Avenue was charged at 2:43 a.m. Oct. 27 with knowingly damaging property. The charges stemmed from a report of criminal damage to property where a vehicle’s windows were broken at 8:52 p.m. Oct. 18 in the 4300 block of South Gage.
• A caller reported at 6 p.m. Oct. 27 someone threw a rock and broke their front window in the 8100 block of West White Avenue.
Dumped garbage
A caller reported at 9:44 a.m. Oct. 26 someone dumped garbage on their lawn in the 4200 block of South Konrad Avenue.
Slashed tires
A caller reported the tires to their vehicle were found slashed at 10:47 a.m. Oct. 26 in the 7900 block of Joliet Road. Police found cuts in the tires of about .25-inch long.
Vehicle theft
A 2014 Nissan Versa was reported stolen at 11:44 a.m. Oct. 26while it was parked in the Marshals parking lot in the 3900 block of South Harlem Avenue while the owner was in XSport Fitness, as reported.
Theft
A caller reported someone stole 20 pills of Oxycodone and a Michael Kors gold bracelet with diamonds while they were staying at the Plank Road Inn, 7307 W. Ogden Ave., as reported at 11:38 a.m. Oct. 27.
Speeding
An officer made a traffic stop at 7:51 a.m. Oct. 25 on a vehicle for speeding in the 4200 block of South Lawndale Avenue. When the officer approached the vehicle, they reported smelling marijuana. The driver admitted he smoked marijuana and had marijuana in his possession. The driver gave the officer a bag containing about 2 grams of marijuana, and no other contraband was found in a search of the vehicle. The driver was cited for speeding, but no charges were filed for marijuana possession.
