Service restored on Union Pacific Northwest Metra line; Cumberland station's power back on

As the evening commute home approaches, Metra trains on the Union Pacific Northwest line are running on time and power was restored to the Cumberland station, according to Metra officials.

A downed power line that crossed all three tracks on the line that runs from Woodstock to downtown Chicago halted both inbound and outbound trains Friday morning, causing delays of up to two and a half hours, Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile said.

The Cumberland station, which is between the Des Plaines and Mount Prospect stations, was not receiving platform announcements until about 4 p.m. Friday. Passengers were  advised to exercise extreme caution when boarding and exiting trains at the station.

Inbound and outbound service was restored on the northwest line about 12 p.m., about six and a half hours after the power line fell across the tracks.

ComEd crews worked to remove the power line and were responsible for repairing the outage at the Cumberland station, Reile said.
