Alleged Joliet taco truck burglar had just left jail

JOLIET – A Minooka man had been out of jail for about 10 hours before authorities say he was arrested again, accused of stealing items from a taco truck.

Cody A. Gilson, 21, received probation Tuesday on forgery charges for cashing forged payroll checks, according to court records. Gilson was arrested June 11 after he was identified exchanging bogus checks for cash at a cellphone store on Collins Street and a currency exchange on Jefferson Street.

Will County jail records indicate Gilson, of the 400 block of San Carlos Road in Minooka, was released at 4:50 p.m. Tuesday.

At 2:56 a.m. Wednesday, police were called to the 300 block of Cass Street after witnesses told authorities they saw Gilson, Dawson A. Abbit, 21, and Nicholas R. Brown, 20, taking items from a food truck set up in a parking lot.

Officers found the three men walking down the street with milk crates filled with soda, tortillas and a speaker that had been on the truck’s counter, according to police reports.

Gilson was arrested on a charge of burglary and returned to the jail at 5:48 a.m.

Gilson’s probation on the forgery charge is expected to be revoked because of the new charge.
