Oswego man accused of child rape

SYCAMORE — A 32-year-old Oswego man accused of sexually two children in Kendall County faces similar charges here for allegedly assaulting one of those children in Somonauk, authorities said.

Jason J. Phipps, of the 1500 block of Light Road, was charged Monday with four counts of predatory criminal sexual assault. He is accused of sexually assaulting a minor younger than 13 four times from September 2003 to December 2003, court records show.

Phipps' bond for the DeKalb County charges was set at $250,000. He was jailed in Kendall County unable to post bond in connection with 10 counts alleging he sexually assaulting two victims in Kendall County.

One of the victims from the Kendall County case is the victim in the DeKalb County case, said Gary Dumdie, DeKalb County Sheriff's chief deputy. The child was six years old when the incidents occurred in Somonauk.

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office found out about the Somonauk offenses after witnesses recently came forward to Kendall County investigators, Dumdie said.

If convicted of all the DeKalb County charges, Phipps would face between 24 and 120 years in prison. He would need to serve 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole and would be required to register as a sex offender for life.

Phipps was transported back to Kendall County after his court appearance Monday and was appointed a public defender. He is next due in DeKalb County court Aug. 13.
