ELMHURST – Rain didn't keep Elmhurst Farmers Market regular Lauren Fierz of Elmhurst away for opening day last week.
Fierz, who was joined by her daughter Catarina and nephew Anthony Pellegrino, said she visits the market every week in the summer while she purchased a few veggie burgers, vegan minestrone and some giardiniera from The Eating Well, which is new to the market this year.
While rain returned this Wednesday, vendors and regulars continued with the summer tradition organized by the York and Vallette Business Association.
This year, 29 vendors, including 10 farmers are signed up for the weekly event, selling everything from fresh produce to organic veggie burgers and treats.
Market-goers can check the business association's website throughout the summer to see what produce is in season and get recipes using those ingredients.
The market is open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Wednesday from June through October on the northeast corner of York and Vallette streets.
