DuPage Medical Group promises quality care, foot traffic and tax revenue for Wheaton

WHEATON – The new DuPage Medical Group office, a key capital development in downtown Wheaton, will hold its grand opening ceremony today and
begin seeing patients Monday.

The building, located at 150 E. Willow Ave., is about 40,000 square feet and will include 21 physicians with areas of expertise such as obstetrics and gynecology, physical and occupational therapy, internal medicine, family practice, mammograms and intensive outpatient specialties.

The development is part of Wheaton’s downtown revitalization, which has included the opening of Mariano’s Fresh Market and the approval of the Downtown Strategic and Streetscape Plan.

Wheaton Mayor Mike Gresk said the facility is an excellent use of the former Jewel Osco property, which was empty for years before construction began on the new building.

He believes DuPage Medical Group will attract people throughout the area.

“It will generate a lot of foot traffic, both from the employees and also from the patients, from the visitors,” he said. “These are people that will generate dollars, tax dollars, for us in terms of retail sales.”

The office will also pay millions in property taxes to the city, Gresk said, because the group decided against using available TIF funds.

DuPage Medical’s chief operating officer, Dennis Fine, said the office’s 75-person staff is excited to get started.

They believe the facility is an investment in the community and will draw more patients, in addition to those from the group’s three local clinics.

“The existing location that the large group is at for internal and family practice – it’s a very old facility, and we really wanted to upgrade the location and add some more services,” Fine said. “The downtown area is being revitalized ... and it was a great location that became available that was the perfect size for what we wanted to do.”

Dr. Mark Nelson, a family physician who will move to the new building after working in the group’s previous Wheaton practice 27 years, said it will be a positive change for everyone.

“We’re just excited to move,” he said. “It’s going to be such a great environment to work in. Patients are going to love it.”
