DeKALB – DeKalb residents looking for chicken wings will have a new restaurant to visit early next month.
Texas-based chain Wingstop plans to open a restaurant at 1015 W. Lincoln Highway Suite E, near Northern Illinois University.
Roger Hopkins, the economic development consultant for the city of DeKalb said the restaurant is two to three weeks away from final inspections from the city of DeKalb's building department and the DeKalb Count Health Department that would allow the restaurant to open.
Wingstop offers 10 flavors of bone-in and boneless chicken wings and chicken sandwiches as well as a variety of sides. The chain boasts 500 restaurants in more than 30 states and growing. DeKalb is one of 25 locations across the country on the company's list of restaurants coming soon.
The space was formerly an AT&T store, but has been vacant for several months.
Hopkins said Wingstop will fit nicely in to the area, which offers a number of fast, casual restaurants popular among college students such as Chipotle, Starbucks and Fatty's.
Along with Wingstop, the area will also welcome a Culver's this year after the DeKalb City Council in March approved plans from Plano couple Jeff and Marcia Newkirk to build one at 1262 W. Lincoln Highway.
“We could almost call it the food court corridor,” Hopkins said.
