What you need to know about NWHerald.com digital subscriptions

Digital subscriptions began on www.nwherald.com on Wednesday, April 2, 2014. Here is an FAQ to help explain how it works:

How many stories do I get before I have to subscribe?

Website readers will have 7 stories available to them every 30 days, free of charge. If they wish to read more than 7 stories, they’ll need to purchase a digital subscription.

Subscribers to the newspaper already have “All-Access” benefits to the website. Digital access is included in your Northwest Herald print subscription. You just need to register once and set up your login.

How will I subscribe and set up my digital subscription?

Our digital subscription vendor is Press+.

Website visitors will receive a Press+ greeting with a subscription offer upon opening your fourth article within the 30-day period. If you decline the offer, Press+ will let you know they have three articles remaining. If you click on your 8 th story within 30 days, a Press+ “lightbox” appears, letting you know you need to subscribe to continue.

Current print subscribers will be able to register their digital accounts immediately by clicking on the “Register” button at the top of the home page.

How much does a digital subscription cost?

You can subscribe for just $.99 for the first month. After the trial period, the monthly rate is $7.99. Readers can also purchase an annual subscription for $79.99 (a 16% savings).

Does all website content require a subscription after 7 stories?

No. Classified pages can be viewed by anyone, anytime. This includes Help Wanted, Real Estate, Garage Sales, Merchandise & Public Notices. In addition, user-submitted photos and client-related content are excluded from the story count. Readers can access PlanitNorthwest.com pages and contest/event registrations anytime, without restrictions.

How are we tracking the number of stories I read?

Press+ will manage the site meter and will present you with appropriate messages and subscription offers when needed.

Why are we requiring subscriptions to read online content?

Quite simply, we want to continue providing quality local content. A subscription model ensures the Northwest Herald can provide loyal readers with the best news and information available - in print, online, or on their smartphones.

Will the Press+ subscriber login replace the current login for registered users?

Yes. Digital subscribers will bypass the Google Surveys and will have access to the archives by logging into their Press+ account.

Visitors who do not have a Press+ account will not have access to the archives, nor can they bypass the Surveys.

The only registered users to the website, effective April 2, 2014, will be readers with a Press+ account.

Livefyre commenting will still have its own separate registration and login, like it does now.

If I have any issues logging into my Press+ account, who can help me?
