Culver’s renovates Sycamore restaurant

SYCAMORE – Culver’s of Sycamore has reopened with a new look after closing for renovations this week.

The re-imaging provides Culver’s, 1200 DeKalb Ave., with an improved dining atmosphere designed to enhance the guest experience, franchise owner Amanda Corona said. The restaurant has been open at that location since 2000, and the franchise agreement requires “freshening up” the site occasionally, Corona said.

“We did some painting and got some new equipment a couple of years ago,” Corona said.

A couple of weeks ago, the marquee in front of the building was replaced with a digital sign.

Improvements inside include a new dropped ceiling; new booths, tables and chairs; new carpeting; a digital sign and several TV screens, Corona said. The bathrooms were completely renovated, she said.

“The colors make the dining room feel bigger and give it a warmer feeling,” Corona said. “It’s all about providing a homier experience for our guests.”

Culver’s guest Megan Stansky of Cortland was at the restaurant Friday with her three daughters and her parents after a school program.

“We come here about once a month of so,” Stansky said. “I think it looks really nice since the renovation.”

Stansky’s mother, Deb Drager of Glen Ellyn, said they are in the area frequently visiting their grandchildren.

“They said they loved sitting in the bubble booth,” Drager said of her granddaughters, referring to the circles in the pattern on the upholstery. “They already have their favorite booth named.”

Rockford resident Denise Wehrhan visited with her daughter after an appointment in Sycamore.

“I think all of the Culver’s restaurants are renovating,” Wehrhan said. “We go to the one in Rockford occasionally.”

Known for its butter burgers and fresh frozen custard, Culver’s also partners with a variety of community organizations for fundraisers.

“I have three kids in Sycamore schools,” Corona said. “We’re passionate about helping the schools.”

Another change in the dining room is divided trash containers – for paper and plastic - that assist with recycling.

“Recycling is something we’re becoming more aware of, and we hope our guests will participate,” Corona said. “I haven’t heard a lot of feedback from our guests yet, but our employees are excited about it.”

Corona estimated the restaurant sees an average of 650 guests a day.
