A reform slate in embattled Grafton Township ended Tuesday with mixed results.
Independent candidates running on the Restore Grafton Township platform won township supervisor and two of four trustee seats, but Republican candidates held onto the others.
Supervisor candidate James Kearns narrowly defeated Republican Pam Fender by 67 votes, winning 1,944 votes to Fender’s 1,877, according to unofficial totals.
Two of the Restore slate’s three trustee candidates – Daniel Ziller Jr. and Joseph Holtorf – won election. The victorious GOP candidates were Robert Wagner and incumbent Betty Zirk. GOP assessor candidate Alan Zielinski bested Restore challenger Terra Jensen by 224 votes, and Republican Tom Poznanski beat Restore candidate Timothy Hoeft for highway commissioner by 313 votes.
The Democratic Party of McHenry County picked up a seat in McHenry Township, where Mary Mahady upset Republican township Assessor Carol Perschke, 3,634 to 3,153. But Democratic trustee challenger Scott Wieck lost to Republican candidates.
Green Party candidate Frank Wedig made Dorr Township’s trustee race contested, but he came in a distant fifth to the Republican slate. Incumbent Republican Supervisor Robert Pierce handily defeated Democrat Phillip Robertson.
• In Alden Township, clerk candidate Kathy Nolan upset incumbent Gail Modetz.
• In Chemung Township, incumbent Highway Commissioner Donald Staver defeated Paul Hereley. John Killeen III upset incumbent Edward MacDonald to win a trustee seat.
• In Coral Township, William Damisch and Laurie Cisneros won trustee seats, as did incumbents Marcia Lockwood and Michael Grismer.
• In Dunham Township, incumbent Assessor Geri Alten beat Hugo Roldan.
• In Greenwood Township, incumbent Highway Commissioner Donald Goad defeated Eugene Rosio.
• In Hartland Township, incumbent Highway Commissioner Michael Murray defeated candidate Christina Klutts.
• In Hebron Township, challenger Paul Musgrave beat acting Supervisor Howard Schaid. Zeke Nickels came out on top of a five-way race for highway commissioner by only four votes.
• In Marengo Township, incumbent Supervisor Steven Weskerna beat Donald Craney, and incumbent Clerk Heather Greenquist won re-election against LaRita Grubb. Incumbent Highway Commissioner John Adamson Jr. beat three challengers.
• In Nunda Township, Republican Kelvin “Lee” Jennings defeated Leda Drain for the office of township supervisor.
• In Richmond Township, acting Supervisor Pat Doyle defeated Adrienne Metz. Incumbent Assessor Patricia O’Neill defeated Michael Crouse for re-election.
