ELMHURST — Jack Tosh, former York Community High School athletic director, basketball coach and namesake for the "Tosh Tournament," died Monday morning.
"Jack touched many, many lives in the York community," York Principal Diana Smith said in a Monday email to staff. "Many of our staff members are close friends, and several were hired by Jack and coached alongside him."
Tosh earned his undergrad and graduate degrees at Northwestern. He played baseball there and also for the Marines.
During the '60s and '70s, he taught and coached at Evanston and DeKalb High Schools, according to Smith's email.
He was named athletic director at DeKalb before moving to York in the mid '70s. There, he coached basketball, football, golf, and baseball and served as York's athletic director until he retired in 1990.
Tosh is an honored member of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame.
